Sandra Slatter
'Helping cancer survivors get back on track'.
Sandra Slatter is an author, writer, cancer survivor, and an advocate for those surviving cancer.
Prior to her cancer diagnosis of Mantle Cell Lymphoma in 2003 and subsequent stem cell transplant in 2004 Sandra ran a successful business specialising in economic, business and community development. She was awarded the Centenary Medal for her contribution to small business in rural and regional Victoria.
Since her transplant Sandra's life has changed dramatically and permanently. She has retrained as a Civil Celebrant, written a book outlining her cancer journey, and compiled and edited a commemorative book marking the 20 th Anniversary of Transplantation at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Sandra was also responsible for initiating and rewriting, in conjunction with the RMH transplant coordinator, an education and resource guide for transplant recipients and their carers. She is the founder of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute Living Well Project; a support care and rehabilitation program.
In an endeavour to raise the awareness of the physical and emotional difficulties faced by those surviving cancer and to raise funds for the Living Well project Sandra recently completed perhaps one of the biggest challenges in her life - The Camino Way, an 800km walk across the top of Spain.
